Port Colborne Sailors forward Nicholas Gilby made his presence felt on the provincial stage, playing a key role for Team Thornton at the GOHL Top Prospects Game in Peterborough.
Gilby scored the game-winning shorthanded goal with 7:07 remaining in the third period, snapping a 3–3 tie and helping lift Team Thornton to a 5–3 victory over Team Scheifele in front of 522 fans at the Miskin Law Community Complex. The clutch goal stood as the decisive moment in a tightly contested showcase featuring the GOHL’s top OHL prospects.
The performance was especially meaningful for the Sailors organization, as Port Colborne head coach and general manager Kevin Rosebrugh served as an assistant coach for Team Thornton. Rosebrugh had a front-row seat behind the bench as his own player delivered the game’s turning point, further highlighting the strong connection between the Sailors and the league’s elite development pathway.
The GOHL Top Prospects Game was held in conjunction with the OHL’s Connor McDavid Top Prospects Game, providing players like Gilby an opportunity to shine in front of scouts and hockey decision-makers. Gilby’s shorthanded winner ensured the Port Colborne Sailors were well represented on one of the league’s biggest stages.
