Weekly Recap: Sailors Sweep the Weekend with Home Win and Road Shutout

The Port Colborne Sailors put together a perfect weekend, earning victories in both games with a dramatic home win on Friday night followed by a dominant road shutout on Saturday.

Friday Night – Sailors Defeat Pelham at Home

The Sailors opened the weekend at home against the Pelham Panthers in a tightly contested matchup that required extra time to decide.

After a scoreless first period, Hunter Vilanez opened the scoring at 5:42 of the second period to give Port Colborne a 1–0 lead. Pelham responded in the third, tying the game at 11:04, forcing overtime.

Neither team found the back of the net in overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Vilanez scored the decisive shootout goal, lifting the Sailors to a hard-fought victory over the Panthers.

Saturday Night – Sailors Shut Out Caledonia

Port Colborne carried that momentum into Saturday night’s road game in Caledonia, delivering a complete team performance in a 4–0 shutout win.

The Sailors struck twice in the first period, both on the power play. Tristen Aben opened the scoring at 10:53, followed by PJ Alexander at 16:53 to make it 2–0 after one.

Aben added his second of the night late in the second period, again on the power play, extending the lead to 3–0. Port Colborne capped off the scoring early in the third period when Nathaniel Rose finished a play set up by Giacomo Del Priore and Zach Lowe.

The Sailors outshot Caledonia 29–24 and controlled play throughout the game, earning one of their most complete wins of the season.
