This collaboration marks a significant milestone for the Sailors, who relocated from Thorold, Ontario, for the 2023-24 season. The partnership allows the Sailors to receive affiliated players, draft picks, and prospects from the Otters, providing a close-to-home base for player development. Located just 188 Kilometers from Erie, Port Colborne is an ideal location for nurturing future OHL talent.
General Manager Christian Wiley expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the unique opportunity to align with an OHL club like Erie. Wiley praised the Otters’ organization, from owner Jim Waters to the entire staff, for their dedication to making this a mutually beneficial relationship. He highlighted the importance of emulating the Otters’ program to ensure a smooth transition for players advancing to the OHL level.
Head coach Kevin Roseburgh, formerly of the Southern Tier Admirals AAA organization, leads the Sailors’ hockey operations. Under his guidance, along with Wiley’s management, the Sailors are committed to developing young talent with the highest standards.
Dave Brown, GM of the Erie Otters, lauded the GOJHL as a premier development league and expressed confidence in the Sailors’ ability to prepare players for the next level. Otters’ prospect Brody Coe, who played for the Sailors last season, is a testament to the successful development pipeline between the two teams.
The Erie Otters, coming off a successful season and a return to the post-season, are poised for continued growth with this new affiliation. Both organizations are dedicated to fostering young talent and ensuring a seamless path to professional hockey.
The Port Colborne Sailors are thrilled to join forces with the Erie Otters and look forward to a fruitful partnership that benefits players, coaches, staff, and fans.
